Hi,

I really need your help!

When I save a finale 2014 finale as a pdf document, the half notes look like this [literally]: (bb)

I tried everything: reboot the mac, reinstall OS x, reinstall finale 2014. Nothing is really working.

All the other music notation appears correcty on pdf document, including whole note rests. I've this problem only in half note rests.

This is happening with all finale documents.

THANK YOU SO MUCH

Welcome to the forum!

If I understand you correctly, the half rests appear correctly on the computer screen when you open and view the Finale document, right?
It is only in the PDF file that the half rests are incorrect, right?

Since the half rests display correctly in the Finale document, I suspect that the culprit is the way you create the PDF file.
You probably use the Mac OS X Print dialog box, and choose “Save as PDF…”, right?

Instead, try another way:
Instead of “Save as PDF…”, choose “Open PDF in Preview”.
When you are viewing the PDF in Preview, hit ⌘S to save.

You get to a directory dialog box where you can save as PDF using various Quartz-filters.
Try the Quartz-filter option “Create Generic PDFX-3 Document”.

Thank you so much Peter.

Before you wrote your message I went to Document > Data Check > Font Utilities > Advanced.
In the "Advanced" box, I checked (√) two options:
- Reset Symbolic Fonts List to Default
- Sync Document to Symbol Fonts List

It worked perfectly. After that, the Finale is working normally, and the pdf documents have all the normal music symbols, including the half note rest.

Thank you for your support!

I am having the same issue with the notes appearing low (currently eighth notes and quarter notes). I attempted to do the following:

I went to Document > Data Check > Font Utilities > Advanced.
In the "Advanced" box, I checked (√) two options:
- Reset Symbolic Fonts List to Default
- Sync Document to Symbol Fonts List
When I selected Apply, the two boxes unchecked themselves. When I exported to PDF the pitches still appeared too low on the PDF.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As Peter asked many years ago, how are you creating your PDF?
