Hello,

is there a possibility to replace all quaver notes with tied eight notes by dotted quaver notes? Maybe by plugin or script?

Thank you!

Ralph

Ralph, we need a little more information: What program are you using? What is the time signature?

It can be done in the full Finale.

In the MIDI menu, go to Quantization Settings... and then to More Options...
Make sure that the Use Dotted Rests is checked. (I know, these are notes, not rests. Do it anyway.) OK
From the MIDI menu, Retranscribe.

(I'm working from memory, here. I have a sleeping kitten on my lap, and can't get to the computer. You may have to alter the instructions, but that's the gist of it...)

Also, please add your version and OS in your user profile.

I am a little confused by your question.

As Far As I Know, the british word “quaver” means “eighth”.
If my translation is right, then your phrase translates to
“replace all eighth notes with tied eighth notes by dotted eighth notes”.
If that is what you mean, then I can not follow your thoughts ?!?
The total duration of two eighths is 1/4.
But the duration of a dotted eighth is 3/16.

Did you perhaps mean “quarter notes”, rather than “quaver notes”?
Then the phrase would translate to
“replace all quarter notes with tied eighth notes by dotted quarter notes”.
Is that what you mean?

I have another question for you:
A time signature of 6/4 can be defined in two ways.
How is the 6/4 time signature defined?

Is is
Number of Beats: 6
Beat Duration: Quarter

or is it
Number of Beats: 2
Beat Duration: Dotted Half
