Sudden trouble

A few days ago Finale 25 stopped working correctly. Untill than all was well. Nothing added. Nothing changed with the computer.

First it displays Finale can't load the 2012 converter dll. When I try to playback it says it missing VST. The virtual instrument plug-in can't be found.

I figured something went haywire and uninstalled and reinstalled Finale. Didn't help. Same errors. Finale 2014.5 is working as it should.
This is a Win 10 Anniversary machine.

I have been reporting on issues with the JW plugins causing wonkiness with Finale 25. I use Windows 7 and was led to believe that Win 10 didn't have this issue. However, you might see if you installed the JW plugins. If so, try moving them out of the plugins folder to a backup location and see if there are any changes.

You might try removing and reinstalling the Garritan bloat.

Apparently it does, too. I removed the plug-in folder completely and Finale 25 seems to be OK. It is working for now but it did before. Can I assume I can replace the MM plug-ins?

THe JW plug-ins did work for a while if this is truly the cause.

I have been using the first set available in October, and then, when the new ones arrived, I installed those. That's when the trouble began.

I wouldn't remove all the Finale 25 plugins, but just the JW plugins. I have been communicating with MM over this, and they have my crash reports. Read my 2 threads about this issue (one in general discussions and one in Playback). See if any of those findings can be duplicated on your system.

I would also contact MM about this as confirmation of my findings. So far, they think it is just a Win 7 issue. Your report may change their mind about that.

Will do and thanx.

I could seen them dismissing it if they thought it was Windows 7 only ("old software").

This is strange. I renamed the 'plug-in folder' to 'do not load plug-in'. Finale 25 appears as if all is well. No error messages. I removed all JW plug-ins but JW Change and renamed the folder 'plug-ins' as it should be. Back come the errors. I removed JW Change and still got the errors! I renamed the folder again to 'do not load plug-in' and all is working.

What is the folder in preferences? If it is called Plugins, then renaming the folder causes Finale to not find the plugins. When in Finale, and you look at the plugins drop-down list, what shows up?

Mine is called "Plug-ins". Renaming it "do not load Plug-ins" causes it to not load. Doing that made Finale 25 work. I removed the JW plug ins a few at a time to see is any would work. Keeping JW change lastly. Finale displays the mentioned errors if any one of them loads.

Funny though I thought Finale 25 was running as it should after I installed the JW plug-ins at first because I got them right when they came out?

The same problems here for me ebiggs1, both on PC and Laptop. No audio drivers were found, no VST and Finale crashes after reload or find or add plugins.
Sofar MM could't find an answer.

Bingo, I removed the jwtaffsetpanel64 and jwtie64 plugins and trouble is over.

I've been in constant communication with MM and they are definitely investigating the issues with the JW plugins. You might want to also start a support case. They asked me for crash logs and are taking this seriously.

So have I. I just sent them mine. The tech I am dealing with is not ready to say it is the JW plug-ins but says he is aware of it.
All I know is it works without them. It doesn't work with them. I am not a computer guy I admit but this seems pretty plain.

Last reply from MM,
"I have seen a few cases where having too many plugins, including the new JW plug-ins, can cause Finale to crash. At this time I cannot verify if the JW plug-ins are causing your grief."

Well, in earlier versions, I've never had this problem, and have had many more plugins installed. So let's wait and see.

Latest from MM,

"Hello Ernest,

Thanks for getting back to me with your details.

I've talked to our product specialist about this issue and we were able to recreate the display and audio issue with the JW plugins. It looks like the issue expands beyond crashing.

Here is a knowledge base article we've created for this issue: https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ ... 5005128947
I know you already know how to move plug-ins out of the plug-ins folder, but you can follow this article and be notified when this issue is fixed.

Let me know if you have further questions about this issue,
Nick"

I feel vindicated! :)

If you delete some of the plug-ins, JW Change will work and Finale will work. The problem seems to be associated by how many plug-ins you have. Delete the ones you don't use.
