New laptop recommendations

I got a new laptop last month; HP had a big sale. I decided to get something to run some my big math stuff and do some Finale music things. Based on an old recommendation (and some experience), I decided to get an HP Omen gaming laptop. Fast chip (not the fasted, the second slowest), good graphics (the second slowest), 32 gig memory, 2 TB disk with big SSD.
Something similar might work for you. Gaming laptops tend to have pretty good innards. I figured the memory and disk sizes would be important. I got the cheaper (not 4k) screen with fast refresh. Most stuff was in packages; I found a big jump in performance from the cheapest to the next cheapest CPU-Video combo ($150 more) but not much more going up in CPU ($800 more). The 32 gig memory was only about $200. I usually get 5 or more years from each version.
I did find that taking the basic and customizing up priced about $200 more than taking the top and customizing down. (They charged $100 for each customization so I just got my target for whatever was cheaper.)
Other manufacturers should have something. I don't know when they have their sales.
