When I tried to start Finale, it hangs on the opening dialog box and after several minutes posts the message "audio device (DEVICE NAME) is taking a long time to initialize. Option buttons: Wait; Quit Finale; Disable device and quit Finale.

The first time the audio device was Direct Sound. Tried (1) waiting - no good; (2) Quit Finale (tried starting again); (3) Disable device and quit Finale. After next try, audio device WASAPI had same issue. Cannot start Finale.

No other music or audio S/W running when I fired up Finale, nor for this Windows session from boot.

I know this is an old post. However, I am curious if you ever resolved the problem.

It appears there was a system- wide glitch in my laptop. I was having the same issue with Sibelius. I tried changing all sorts of settings but to no avail. Then, a day later, when I booted up my laptop, the issue just disappeared. So, yes, it was solved in the respect that it no longer exists, but I never found out what caused it.
