Is there any advantage to purchasing and using a so-called "gaming computer"?

Not for Finale. Unless you will be doing a lot of audio work with multiple instruments, just about any computer will handle Finale.

'Gaming' computers are for heavy processing of 2D and 3D polygons in transparent layers, with animation, and light-source rendering.

Finale's graphics requirements are largely unchanged since the 90s. It puts some black text characters on a page with some black lines and curves. (Sometimes, we use colour!)

It would be like using a 22-wheeler to transport a small pie on the passenger seat. Across an area with an inner-city speed limit.

Having said that, if you want to drive a very large display -- 4K, 5K, 6K -- then that in itself will require a reasonable amount of graphics grunt. And of course you may want to use your computer for other things, like photo editing, drawing, DTP etc, which uses a bit more.

Don't forget that 'heavy' GPUs and multi-core desktop CPUs use a lot of energy -- between 300 and 500W!!!

Thank you for those responses to my question. I note that gaming computers also cost a lot more.
