Tiger prints all line thicknesses incorrectly (as hairline)

A funny feature turned out after having had to re-install Tiger: suddenly all line thicknesses print incorrectly although everything looks OK on the screen - barlines, stems, staves, repeat signs etc. The same thing happens with the built-in pdf maker of Tiger, which means it's not just a problem of the Samsung printer driver. All lines are all printed as hairline. Noteheads, flags, clefs & accidentals print correctly. When using Acrobat to create a pdf, the result is OK. Re-installing Finale did not help. Any ideas what might cause this?
