Look on the box that you have bought Finale 2003. If it says for Windows XP, then no. If it says Windows XP and beyond (something like that), then it should work.

Finale 2008 is Vista compatible.

hahahaha, I bought this version over 4 years ago so I don't have a box. Vista was not even in Bill Gates' mind then.

I was able to install 2003a to my new vista pc fine, but playback using outboard midi (1x1 midiman) locks up. Tech support tells me I have to upgrade to 2008 to get rid of that problem. I remember having the same issue when I first started using finale.

Any other fixes other than upgrading? I am happy with 2003a, been for years......

Here's the exact problem: When I start playback either with the controls or keyboard 'hot' keys, most of the time the last note hangs on after I stop playback and occasionally the whole program locks up. I have to restart my pc just to get finale to even start up again and of course I've lost all my work I haven't saved.

Any last minute thoughts? MUST I UPGRADE TO 2008 TO HAVE IT WORK IN VISTA?? Everything else seems fine. It's just the playback that's a problem.

Thanks.....

This is a follow up...I tried to change the midi out, even to (none) selected and just use pc playback but still the playback shuts down/locks up the program.

Bottom line: I have to upgrade to 2008 to use with Vista??? Is that the ONLY version compatible with Vista? I see other issues with 2008 on this forum. Are the bugs worked out yet?

Thanks.

Yeah, 2008 is the only I can see that says Vista compatible. Vista itself is still having issues, yes. I agree.

Call up tech support for Finale and tell them your troubles. They should be able to help out. Or call up tech support for Vista. They should help too. I don't know the number for Vista's tech support though.

ronny-

Finale 2008 is the only officially supported version of Finale on Vista. If you want to use Finale on Vista you will need to upgrade.

Is the 2008 version same as the previous versions? I have 2004a.

Each new version of Finale (2005 - 2006 - 2007 - 2008) has new features not available in earlier versions.

If you upgrade from 2004 to 2008, you will get many, many new features.

Also note that the Maintenance Update from 2008 to 2008a has a substantial amount of bug fixes - it's a huge Christmas gift.

Hi everyone. I just installed Finale 2008 yesterday and am using a demo. How do I upgrade to full? I am not using a CD.

You can do it at their website:

www.finale.com

or by calling their sales line:

800-843-2066.

...with the PrintMusic demo you can save and print for 30 days, without having to pay.
However, PrintMusic doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" of the full Finale.

How long does the trial last? I know there is a limit until saving and printing becomes disabled.
