drumset completely ignoring all volume expressions like

jeez... this has been getting on my nerves for a while but i compose for a jazz band every now and then and no matter what I do the drumset does not play piano or mezzoforte or whatever i assign it. it just plays as loud as ffff and i can't do anything about it. all of the other instruments will work but not the drumset. i have a piano-volume sax solo in the beginning with a light swing groove and all you hear is the freaking drums beatin away. does anyone know what's going on with this??? please help!
