I am looking at a piece at the moment which has several distinct sections. Some of the sections swing and some require the piece played as straight 8ths. I only know how to swing the whole piece on playback, rather than distinct sections. Is there a was of specifying which measures should swing and which should play straight?
Also, I have so far only needed to swing 8th notes. This piece requires me to swing 16th notes so that two 16ths = tuplet: 8th +16th. I haven't a clue how to do this.
Finally, is there a way of highlighting section of the piece, akin to using the highlighter in mircrosoft word? I'm sure there must be an icon to do this, but I just haven't found it yet.
And before you ask, i've not been able to get the help videos to run on my system due to some kind of software conflict, hence my posting here.
Thanks again in advance.

Switch back and forth between Swing and Straight by using expressions.
IIRC, to swing 16th notes, you need to have the time as 6/8, or 8/8. (You can display it as something else, of course.)
No highlighter. Many of us have been asking for this for a long time.

Swing playback can be created with the Expression Tool or with the Tempo Tool.
With the Tempo Tool you can create any swing playback you want, e. g. swing 16ths.
However, it's easier to create swing playback with the Expression Tool.
That's the reason why we normally recommend using the Expression Tool for swing playback.
The downside is that "Expression Tool swing" can be created only as an "un-even" subdivision of the "time signature" beat duration.
In 4/4 time the beat duration is a quarter, so you can only create swing 8ths.
As a workaround you can make the "real" time signature 8/8, but displaying as 4/4.
This solution (8/8 time displaying as 4/4) works well.
The only drawback is that Slash Notation will display 8 slashes per measure.

Thanks for this 8/8 solution inre 16th note swing playback. Works like a charm.
Now, how do I configure it so my 1/8 notes automatically beam as if in 4/4?
Thanks!
Rick

I do not think that there is a way to make them “automatically” beam as 4/4.814jazzer wrote:… Now, how do I configure it so my 1/8 notes automatically beam as if in 4/4? …
I suggest that you first,
- enter all the music,
and next,
- Rebeam to a 4/4 time signature via the utility:
Utilities menu > Rebeam > Rebeam to Time Signature…
