Finale 25.5.0.259 OSX 10.14.3

Greetings,

Is it possible to create a special quaver beam over barline at the repeat sign ? (The following bar has no quavers).

Many thanks.

You might just do it as a custom shape expression.

Thanks for the quick reply, Miker.

I just tried using custom shapes from the special tools, and from the expression designer, but both looked most unrealistic.

I always find it very hard to manage this kind of drawing... and it is rather unwieldy.

Do you have any other ideas ?

I will persevere, however.

I have an idea or two, but seeing a picture of what you have so far with a description of what you need would give us more direction.

Just managed to create something by replacing the quavers with quarter notes and adding a custom line... I cannot upload photos as the file is too big.
However, one of my two lines "jumps" elsewhere. Can anyone tell me how to overcome this irritating movement?

Many thanks.

For the beams at the end of the first bar, I used a method similar to the way the Patterson plugin does it. I added an extra 8th note (thus overfilling the bar) so there is now a beam. If you hide the extra note, the beam on the prior note changes to a flag, so that is not a viable approach. However, selecting a blank character for the extra note's notehead, and a blank shape for its stem, you now have the look. If playback is important, then you need to mute playback for that extra note.

As far as the beam at the front of the next bar, that would be trickier. I believe the easiest approach would be something similar involving doing something similar in another layer, then hiding everything except the 2 8th notes and the first real note of the second bar. That sounds confusing, but I think that would work. Even better would be launching Voice 2 from the end of bar one into bar two. That would save some extra hiding of rests, and less work with flipping stems.

Thank you Zuill.

Just added and hid a headless quaver — voice 2 in the previous bar, and that works fine.

My solution using a custom smart shape thick line also works, although it can be awkward to keep in from "jumping about".

By the way, how do you create a blank shape for a stem ?

Custom Stem Tool (Special Tools). Click the option to create a shape. Then, save it without entering anything in the designer window. Lastly, choose that shape for the custom stem. That, essentially, is a blank stem.
