Once upon a time, you use to be able to start/stop playback by using the spacebar...I miss that feature.
Any chance in bringing it back?

Spacebar to start/stop playback only works when the window Playback Controls is open.

i am assuming you are using windows.
On mac, as Peter said, it should work.
On windows try this:
space bar + click into the measure that you want playback.
If you want to hear a single voice try this:
shift + space bar + click into the measure that you want playback.
To stop playback just click your mouse into the score anywhere.
