I came to Finale after 10 years of heavy Encore use. I really miss the Encore feature which allowed me to select a note value, then have every MIDI note played enter as that value. This was very helpful for measures filled with 16th notes-- reduces the number of keystrokes per note by one. It would seem(and I am NO programmer) that the use of a modifier key in conjunction with Simple Entry note value selection would allow this feature.

Can't you do that in Speedy Entry with Number Lock on?

You can do it in Speedy entry with "Double-Shift + Number".

Finale 2004 has the desired feature in Simple Entry Tool.
Quoting from the PDF manual for Finale 2004's Simple Entry Tool:

"With the caret active, play a note or chord on a MIDI keyboard to enter pitch(es) of the chosen duration."
