When reducing a large score such that parts are combined through implode music, it would be great to have an option that would allow for the parts to be imploded as if they were entered as separate voices. In other words, if you took a Saxophone 1 part, and a Saxophone 2 part, and combined them so that the staff read Saxophone 1,2; the music in the measure would reflect the separate parts, to include the original beaming, original note values, and stems flipped in opposite directions. This would only need to be 2 parts to 1, as a standard score would rarely include more than 2 parts on a single instrument part.
The other solution would be to allow the part manager to split parts from within a single staff. So, the part manager would create two separate saxophone parts from the above selection. New concert band scores at the collegiate level are now being delivered with as many as 47 staves on a single page, making them impossible to read. This is often done solely for clarity in the individual parts.

I may misunderstand you, but it seems to me that Finale already has the feature you wish:ande1746 wrote:...The other solution would be to allow the part manager to split parts from within a single staff. the "Voicing" function in the dialog box "Manage Parts" (click the button "Edit Part Definition" to expand the "Manage Parts" dialog box).
To make the layout display correctly (= "reflect the separate parts, to include the original beaming, original note values, and stems flipped in opposite directions"), use layers.
