Having recently bought Finale 2011 I was disappointed that the facilities for guitar notation is still lagging behind its competitors. Both Guitar Pro 6 and now also I understand Sibelius offers an on-screen fretboard for note entry. Guitar Pro 6 also makes it possible to enter notes in the tab only and these notes are then automatically shown in the 5-line staff above. Especially this last feature is extremely useful. Ideally there would be a part that includes these two staffs automatically.
Even if my skills in standard notation are good, TABs and fretboards are still extremely useful tools for guitar note entry.
