Running recent most recent Finale (as far as I know) on macOS 14.5, M2 silicon.
This problem is unrelated to the other two I just posted.
The problem has existed for most of a year.
My third question for the day, a record for me.
I'll shut up after this.
It's specific to the M2 Mini. It doesn't happen on my laptop running Monterey 12.7.5 in my music studio.
I set up my preferences in Finale so that when I open a project, I have several of the floating windows strung across the top in this order from left to right
o Playback Controls
o Main
o Simple
o Special
o Shapes
o Rests
(I could get rid of rests since I never use it.)
After an upgrade a while ago, I found that the Main Special and I think the Simple boxes do not appear. I have to explicitly select them from the Window menu and drag them into place.
Often, if I change my focus to another app such as a browser and then go back, the windows will be gone and I have to reselect them from the Window menu.
Occasionally, I will stumble across them on a different desktop where I don't have Finale or anything else running. I use numerous desktops, so this can be an adventure.
It's not that big a deal but it isn't supposed to work that way. And I have to do it every single time I open a project, and often when I switch between apps. That's when it gets to be annoying.
Is this a known problem? Something I can fix?
Thanks for your patience.

It's working correctly for me.
Maybe refresh the preferences? That might help with the other problems, as well.

miker> Maybe refresh the preferences?
This didn't work. I haven't looked at my Settings for quite a while. I tweaked a few things, but I don't know where it is that you tell Finale which of those windows you want to come up when you open a file. It's just always worked (for many years).
Correction to my original post. The boxes that DO come up are:
Playback
Main
Simple
Rests (which I'd like to delete, though there's no harm in having it)
The palettes I have to call up every time are
Smart Shapes
Special Tools
This happens on all projects, old and new.

Those two palettes will close, unless you UNCHECK “Close Subsidiary Palettes When Leaving Tool” in Preferences > Palettes and Backgrounds.

Unchecking "Close Subsidiary Palettes When Leaving Tool" works, too!
This has been a productive day.
