Hello,
shortly after Finale is started it begins periodically to block the whole system for some minutes. The mouse can hardly be moved and the CPU shows 100 %. Finale itself more then 60-70 %.
For a few minutes all is OK, then a few minutes all is blocked, then again OK and so on.
And this happens ONLY, when Finale is started - even if I do nothing.
It happens also in a new windows profile - but not in the safe mode.
All drivers are the newest version, with no recognizable conflicts.
How to fix this problem ?
System:
Finale 2014.5
Windows 7 64-bit
4 GB RAM
Intel Core duo CPU
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 M GS
IDT High definition audio

Welcome to the forum.
You might want to submit that directly to Finale Tech Support.

Hi miker,
thanks for the answer, but I'm writing here, because the Tech Support couldn't help.
I think it can only be a certain conflict with my windows installation and Finale ?!

That's possible. But they should have the biggest database of problems.
I'm on a Mac, so I can't help. But let's see if any windows users here have any suggestions.

My first guess would be audio drivers.
Is
IDT High definition Audio a third-party add-on? What happens if you remove it?

Though apparently a small database of solutions.
The Safe Mode difference is certainly a clue. I would try Buon Tempi's suggestion, and eliminate things one by one if you can. Also try turning off "check for updates," since they usually only issue a couple of updates per version.
Finale takes a very long time to load on my machine, but it doesn't take over like that. I'm not sure what it's doing all that time.
Just timed it:
F2005 - 8 seconds
F2011 - 20 seconds
F2014.5 - 40 seconds
This is to launch the program without opening a file.

Wow. Is that standard? And I thought the speed problems were all on the Mac side!
Any reason you've not tried 25? By all accounts, it's significantly faster on both platforms.

I still have a 32-bit machine. This could also be related to virus-checking software; I'll have to experiment.

Hey, I removed it, but the problem resisted.
Now I found the solution, Oh no !
![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
It was dust in the fan that caused to much heat on the graphic card (about 95°C) and then the CPU blocked with 100 % usage. Cooled down to 87°C the system worked normally again.
So I removed the fan and cleaned it - now the temperatur does not go over 62°C and the whole problem is solved.
Thank you all for your assistance !
