Hi there,

I'm editing a score and trying to tie some notes together(not slurs)but I can only tie notes that are next to each other and I'm getting really frustrated. The notes are a bar apart where this note is held but the tie just wants to go to the next note.
What am I doing wrong !!!

Thanks
Justin

Ties always go to the next note (identical pitch), not further. Just add one more tie from the 2nd note to the 3rd, etc...
In Speedy for instance, use the = key.

T in Simple entry.

I'm a little unclear on what the problem is. Perhaps you can attach a picture of what you want.

As michelp said, If you have a series of identical notes, and you want the duration held all through, they are tied one to another. You would not use a single tie to span a group of notes.

Are the notes really the same (no accidentals)? If you had (for example) in the key of G, an F natural in one measure, and you tried to tie it to an F# in the next, it won't work.

If we aren't making sense, please give us a picture!

So in this image, I want to tie the C in the bass clef and the G which I've marked with a red line. But all I can get I them to do is tie to the next note.Which I don't understand. Why have a tie function that ties to a different pitch, that isn't what a tie does?

What you want isn't really correct notation, but it can be achieved with the Tie tool. Start the ties as before and then use the Tie tool to drag the ends into the next measure with the mouse. Playback probably wont be correct, though.

In effect, what you are doing is this:

Actually, what you want is very common and quite acceptable. It is often referred to as Ravel Ties. I do it all the time. Just drag the tie end with Special tools. It doesn't play back, but is perfectly fine. Use it. Most of the work-arounds might play back but the look is cumbersome.
