I'm trying to figure out how to notate chords using diagonal lines in Finale. I don't know exactly what they're
called but I have attached a sample picture. What tool would I use for this? Thanks.

I've gotten this far (see two attachments). I'm trying to change the notes to slashes but I don't know what to do next, even though I looked at the manual.miker wrote:You access the staff styles with the staff tool. Look for staff styles in your help files.

musicus,
From your screen shot it looks like you are trying to define the staff style yourself, right?
1) A staff style is not the same as the Staff Attributes.
Staff Attributes are “global” (= default for all the measures in the entire document).
A staff style can be applied “locally”, thus allowing you to “have different Staff Attributes locally”.
To apply a staff style:
Staff Tool.
Staff menu > Apply Staff Style To > …
(or use the context menu)
2) Finale comes with some ready made staff styles.
One of them is the staff style Slash Notation.
If your Finale document was created from the Default Document, then it already contains the staff style Slash Notation.
3) Also, Finale comes with a staff style library that you can load into your documents.
The staff style Slash Notation is included in the staff style library.
