What is the best solution for placement of the whole bar rest plus pausa under the mini cadenza for bassoon 1? Is it OK where it is, or should it be more to the left? If so, how best to move it?
I used JW conceal barlines for the cadenza and blank notation in the three lower staves for the concealed whole bars rests.

I would move it a little to the left, to get approximately the same amount of horizontal space before it and after it (where the space after it should be measured all the way to the barline at rehearsal mark 1).David Ward wrote:What is the best solution for placement of the whole bar rest plus pausa under the mini cadenza for bassoon 1? In Other Words:
I would move it one or two quarters to the left.
What did you do to create it, and to position it where it is now?David Ward wrote:… If so, how best to move it? …
I suppose you could use the Smart Shape Tool, and create it as a (zero thickness) custom line with the whole rest centered between the endpoints.

I did nothing clever! After concealing the barlines, I hid the whole bar rests in the first two bars and in the fourth bar with the Staff Style, but left this one revealed.Peter Thomsen wrote:… … …What did you do to create it, and to position it where it is now?

Is it a "real" whole rest or a default? If it's a real entered rest, you can move it with Special Tools > Note Position Tool.

Following advice from the notat.io forum from John Ruggero to look at Gould p 610, this is how I now have it (some fine tuning required).
I changed the Staff Style to cover all four bars and not to ‘display rests in empty measures.’ In addition, I created a whole bar rest as an expression.

It's turned out to be a bit of a non-problem, as each of the short cadenzas for Bsn 1 in this little (4 min) piece can be made to fit on one system.
(Parts are now complete with the Bsn 1 cadenzas cued into the other three parts.)
