I stopped using Finale last year because I was writing music that required control over vibrato and tremolo. There was no playback sound that could sustain a note for two measures without either effect.
Has this changed?
I had hoped to be able to introduce each of these independently and to a controllable degree. That is essential also. Is that in the works?
I was told that violins were recorded as they are played by musicians. It would seem easy enough to capture one wavelength of an instrument, perhaps in each octave or so, to add to the instrument list. After that, vibrato and tremolo could be added by additional functions. Does anybody care about this?
Thank you for your help.

It's not Finale but the sound library used. You'd need to use a sound library that supports these parameters, no mater what program you use.
Finale 25, Overture, Sibelius, Notion, Cubase, StaffPad
Win10 x64, 32GB RAM, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20
Kontakt, VSL VI Pro, VE Pro, EWQL Orch, Choirs and Pianos

Bill Reed,
Where might I get a sound library that includes sounds that have the properties that I have described?
Thank you for your help.

Does Finale publish requirements of sound files playable in Finale? That would be what a software company or programmer would need to know to create sound files that could be used in Finale.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Jim,
Sorry, just getting back to this...
The standard format is VST / Audio Unit. Any sound library will be available in that format.
What are you looking for more specifically? These thing s can be quite expensive...
BIll

Bill,
As a programmer, I wish to learn how to write a sound file that I can specify all features of the sound. You say that VST / Audio Unit is the format. That is a lead. Do you have anything more I can go on?
Thank you for your help.

I want to add that only a few sound libraries endorse native support for Finale.jamesadrian wrote:Does Finale publish requirements of sound files playable in Finale? That would be what a software company or programmer would need to know to create sound files that could be used in Finale.

If I remember right it is VSL and Xsample.

I find it amazing that such a basic kind of control (one that no conductor could be without) is absent from Finale. Is there any competing software that has control of vibrato and tremolo, or at least turn it off? All of these expensive and complicated paths to the solution can only inspire competition for Finale, while Finale is in the most convenient position to add these features.

Again, you're confusing Finale with the basic set of Garritan instruments that are included for free. Finale can control anything. You need a sound library that provides that control.

You probably need to look into something like Vienna Symphonic Library and MIDI sequencing software. Expecting a notation program to provide performance perfect playback is unrealistic.

You can look here: https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
but Garritan isn't going to have anything like that.
I suggest you hang out here: https://vi-control.net/community/
for a while at VI-Control. It's all about sound libraries and the software to use them.
You might find this a useful resource:
