I need a concert score with 33 staves. Can I do that? Can I print on paper larger than legal size? Say 8.5 by 18, for example? Thanks!

8-1/2 x 18 would be an odd size for a music score, but if you have that size paper and your printer can handle it, you can set the page size in Finale to be whatever you want, within reason.

If you have a large format printer, I would suggest 11 x 17 " (tabloid) paper. I currently use a Canon Pro 100 inkjet for my scores when writing shows. Keeps from having to read tiny notes and symbols.

Thank you. That helps.

Thanks. I'll look into that Canon Pro.

I bought one of these 6 months ago for $309.

My wife prints a couple hundred pages a week for her classroom. I replaced my first (Magenta) cartridge yesterday. A set costs $78. I expect to replace the black cartridge in a month or two. These are the ones that came with the printer—none of that “starter cartridge” nonsense.

and
https://www.amazon.com/Brother-LC3029BK ... MFCJ6935DW

My old HP would have gone through 4 sets @ $125 in that time. The MFCJ6935DW has already paid for itself.

It is nearly as fast as the high speed commercial laser that I used at the phone company and takes only a few seconds before the first page. One-pass Duplex scanning of tabloid pages, full wireless, water resistant inks, 2 paper trays plus a rear feed for odd sizes and envelopes ... what’s not to like? I bough a small utility cart so my wife can roll it into her office if she has a large scanning job. I love this machine that we call Printzilla due to its size.

My only issue is that it can’t match the deep black saturation of my HP on its Best setting. It’s only noticeable when I A/B pages between the two. I keep my HP c309a in service because it prints directly to CDs and is connected to a dedicated fax line.

Be wary of Brother printers for use with Finale 25. I've owned Brother printers for many years, but my MFC-L2740DW prints about 70% grayscale only in Finale. I use two workarounds: 1) Print in Finale 2014.5, or 2) export to PDF in the Graphics Tool. I've gone round-and-round with MM on this problem for about 5 weeks, testing all kinds of print settings, and MM's conclusion is this: "It is likely that we are simply not capturing/passing some printer setting correctly during communication with the printer driver." The problem is apparently not widespread enough for MM to fix it.

You've brought this up before and it is a genuine concern—absolutely. However, it's not an issue with the MFCJ6935DW. I remember posting scans of printed pages from Finale 25 from mine at the time to show that and I can do it again.

There are many differences. Probably the biggest is that yours is a monochrome laser printer while mine is a color inkjet. Anyway, it is bad that there's an incompatibility between the drivers for your printer and Finale. There are two workarounds and it's great that you found them. BTW, if MM ever fixes the issue with regular .pdf not being true black on a Mac in 25, your problem may also get fixed. Let's hope.

While researching my purchase, I was looking at laser printers since inkjets have such high costs per page. That is not true anymore if you select the right inkjet. The MFCJ6935DW is estimated to cost half per page .9¢ vs 1.8¢ black and white for the MFC-L2740DW and that's a typical cost for lasers. The other features (tabloid, 3 trays, color etc.) made the MFCJ6935DW a no brainer. I found one tabloid printer with lower page costs over time but it was a $999 Epson. I'm good.

That's an interesting idea. I hope it works out this way!

Since it is not an issue for 25 users on Windows, it's the only thing I can think of.

I've done a little consulting to Apple over the years, always on print and scan issues—not lately, though.

Has Brother released any updates to your drivers lately? I've seen 4 including just last week. I have mine set up to do them automatically. The only way I know is that a message appears on my display screen.

I check manually. No updates for my printer drivers since 2016. I'm using the latest CUPS driver for my printer. How did you set up checking for updates automatically?

Interesting feedback on the Brother printers. I use my cheap Brother monochrome laser for parts when printing for a show. I print on 24 lb Xerox copy paper with a 96 brightness (found at Costco) and my guys/gals like the crispness, especially on a dimly lit stage. As for my Canon large format, I too hate spending $120+ for 8 replacement inkjet cartridges. I found a supplier on Amazon that sells the 8 cartridges for $28.00. So far the results have been the same whether for printing scores or photos.

I downloaded a utility as part of my setup. I think it's through here.

I am also using the CUPS drivers that I downloaded from Brother. The generic Apple Air Print drivers don't offer as many options nor do they remember the last settings used.

That's great. I've not fooled with 3rd party inks since my Epson days and hated them back then. OTOH, those 3rd party suppliers are still around so someone must be doing something right.

Since my cost with the current factory inks from Brother is so low, I'm sticking with the factory cartridges.

Brother branded paper is way expensive and I see no advantage. Since my HP printers also use a roller pickup and HP papers never, ever jammed, I'm sticking with a couple of reasonably priced HP papers that I've been using a long time. I'm always open to something else that's good, however. What Costco paper are you using?
