playback on Finale 25 is slower than a turtle

Since upgrading to Finale 25, I have been unable to playback any of my music, old or new. The green arrow advances but so extremely slowly that what you hear cannot even be called music. Sometimes it just stutters. Or, for a new song, it will not play a sound at all.
I have tried changing tempo speeds, but nothing seems to affect it. It stays on "turtle" mode!
Help! I am thinking of reverting to Finale 14.5, but I don't really want to do that. What am I missing?
I am running Windows 8.1.

I'm running Win 8.1 and Finale 25 and it's lightening fast.miker wrote:I wonder if the incompatibility is with the older version of Windows, and not necessarily with Finale?
So nothing to do with the OS.

I wondered about the Windows, too. Glad to see that isn't the problem. I didn't delete the other versions of Finale when I updated. Would that have caused any problems?

"Is the Buffer in Device Set-up set to Max?

How do I check that?

I'm High Sierra/Latest Finale.
Here are my Settings. Same with Mytek Dac, and Built-In Output.
Look in Audio/Midi in Utilities Folder.
Make sure Built-In Output (and Dacs, if you use any) are set to 24/96.
As to why you don't have 4096,
I believe there were those Incidents and Allegations....

Naturally, I didn't believe them, but others, who knows!

"Its in Midi/Audio/Device Set-up/Audio Set-up.
I set it 96 Sampling Rate, and 4096 Buffer.
Select your Source, Internal Speakers, or Dac."
Thanks. I set the sampling to 96000 and my Buffer to its highest setting at 8192 and the playback is working at proper speed. How would I ever have figured this out without you? Thank you so much.

I would really like to know why. After reading all of the posts concerning stuttering playback, it finally occurred to me that it might solve my problem, as well. Since I have long said that playback doesn't matter to me (at least, to the level that many users require,) I have generally skimmed over the issue. Obviously, I was wrong, and I would like to improve (at least) my simple requirement!oldmkvi wrote:Good!
It's interesting that you, Mike and I all have different Max Buffer Settings available...

Win 7, Finale 25. Maximum buffer size 8192.
In the standalone Aria player: 32,768.

P.S.: My sample rate in Finale 25 is pre-determined by my soundcard, which is set to 44,100.

Any reference that I could find on buffer size on a Mac was always in an article about another audio program. So I wonder if those other programs are the determining factor?
