YouTube errors when Finale is on

I just downloaded the Finale demo, version 25 on Windows. Whenever I have it open and try to open a YouTube video, it gives a playback error. Whenever I close Finale, the error stops and I can watch videos again. This is extremely annoying when you try to transcribe music and need to look at the original music. Any way to fix this?

It is off. Doesn't matter if something's playing or not, it only errors if the program is on.

I'm merely guessing here, but there were (are?) problems relating to Finale and some models of Mac if nothing is connected to the audio input. It doesn't have to be anything more than a jackplug, but it might be worth investigating. I know that I can watch YouTube videos with Finale 25 open on both my desktop MacMini and my MacBook, so there may be something happening which is specific to your system and/or set-up.
EDIT: On reading your original post again, I think what I've said may be totally irrelevant. You give your operating system as Mac in your signature, but say you downloaded Finale 25 on Windows, so I was a bit confused… Apologies if I've completely missed the point.

Sorry. I have Windows. This account was made a while ago, so sorry for the confusion.
Yeah, I restarted and it's still giving the same issue. Whenever the program's on: http://prntscr.com/kq9bad
I can't hear music on other sites too, while it's open.
EDIT: Never mind, I changed the Audio Input/Output and it seems to work now.

You might also see if your browser has an add-on to allow you to download the MP3 from a YouTube clip, and do your transcription from that.

Even better is to load the mp3 into Finale and then sync it up with the tempo tap in hyperscribe. My transcribing became much easier when I started doing it that way.

How so, Zuill? Or is that only helpful for real transcribers?
Since I'm a hunt-and-pecker, I load the MP3 into Riffstation, which lets me slow the tempo way down without distorting the pitch. But complex tempos (complex to me, anyhow) are my weakest point. Getting the beat right would be a great thing. Then I would just have to worry with the notes, and not when to play them.

If you need to slow it down, that would need to be done before importing into Finale. I do that in Audacity. I then save the slower version and import that into Finale.
Having it in Finale doesn't give you the note values. You still have to do that for yourself. What it saves you is toggling between 2 programs. You work in Studio view. You can spacebar click wherever you want. transcribe, then go on. You can play a spot over and over to help get it right.
Before the measures line up with the mp3, you need to align the tempo of the sample to Finale using the tempo yap in Hyperscribe. It is also better to turn HP off, as it interferes with the interpretation of the MIDI tempo data, usually. Sometimes I get lucky and the mp3 has a strict tempo, so I only need to set the tempo in the playback tempo slot, thus avoiding the tempo tap step. Choosing the right (or close enough to right) tempo that way takes a bit of trial and error (mostly error).

It seems I have the inverse problem. Finale errors if I'm using Utube at the same time. Whenever I move back and forth between using Finale (Windows, 2014/2014.5) and listening to vids on the Tube, soon Finale goes into a partial freeze: playback keeps working but virtually everything else is dead with no response for instance when I click on a note in the Tool Palette or something else. When I close the file and reopen it, without even closing Finale, things revert to normal to soon repeat the same error if I keep that switching to and fro between Finale and the Tube.

That's exactly why I use the built-in feature to load an mp3 file into Finale. By far the easiest and technologically least demanding approach.

Thanks for the replies!
Perhaps it is best to keep Miker's advice and to stop touching where it hurts...or keep closing and re-opening the file everytime the problem emerges.
Anyway, as I understand, this is not a "renew your preferences file" (which actually I did try) case or a known issue with an established remedy, is it?
That apparently is the way to go when tackling one particular video (e.g. for transcribing), but the way I do it, I may look repeatedly at sections of several vids at a time and at several others a short while later (e.g. for comparing sounds with my Finale playback, etc).zuill wrote:That's exactly why I use the built-in feature to load an mp3 file into Finale. This is still an issue in 2021 with Finale 26. I've had this issue occur under two circumstances - either when running audio in other programs, or immediately after saving via Ctrl+S.sandalwood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 4:02 pmIt seems I have the inverse problem. This is a normal issue for me. Finale just takes over and any attempt to access any streaming media is met with an error. I have more or less learned to work around it but sometimes it's a royal PITA! Can you provide more detail re your solution?LifeMushroom wrote: ↑Mon Sep 03, 2018 11:34 pmNever mind, I changed the Audio Input/Output and it seems to work now.
