Repeated ties

I think you might have an inkling that what you have there is not very good notation. I suspect the involvement of a MIDI file at some point in the process. I'd check to see if this figure is repeated elsewhere in the tune, notated slightly differently, hopefully correctly.

I couldn't get the tie to flip the way you showed in the first example, though I did notice that the behavior of the tie-flips was different in Speedy and Simple.

I know it's none of my business, but I'd suggest pointing out to the person you're proofing for that it might be worth cleaning up the notation. Of course, it all depends upon context. The example below might be a solution. Yes, I know that the original version has notes struck and held in a relatively complex manner. For more straightforward settings, this is a degree of detail rarely used. I'll repeat my observation that this might have originated in a MIDI file where these kinds of useless subdivisions are common.
