The problem here is that both the right hand and the left hand sound an octave lower. I just want the left hand to sound an octave lower. How do I make the right hand sound as written?

Instead of the 8vb "Technique Text", try the "8..." Smart Shape. If you want it to say 8vb you can set that up in Smart Shape options.

Try 2 separate midi channels.
