On one page only of this score I get the strange box with ‘embedded’ in it shown at the bottom left in the attached screenshot.

Does anybody have an explanation as to what it might be? It doesn't print, and it most often appears when I scroll up or down on the page, but it can also disappear suddenly. I'd like to get rid of it permanently, but can't identify its source. It's not a disaster, but…

I've tried to deal with it in the Graphics Tool but it doesn't respond, nor does it respond when I click on it in the Selection Tool other than by vanishing if I right click but immediately reappearing if I scroll up or down.

Anybody?

It's still there and it would be nice to know what and why.

There is/was obviously some graphic embedded somewhere, although you say that it can't really be clicked on/selected, which is strange. You probably have, but have you actually checked in the Graphics Tool menu > Check Graphics? Something should show there and tell you where it is placed.
P.S.: Can you attach a file that exhibits this problem?

If this link works, here is the file link now deleted as problem solved and the link would now go to the edited file (see N Grossingink's advice below) It's part of something much larger. The strange embedded graphic appears at the bottom of file page 22 (score page 300). According to Check Graphics it exists both as an EPS and as ‘unknown’ with both linked to Finale temp files. If I open the original .mus file created in F 2003 (in 2004?) and revised (apparently, but probably just re-saved) in F 2009 there is no graphic when it is opened in F 25. However, I have made some recent edits in F 25, and it is in this newly edited and saved file that the graphic shows. (Apologies for the not very good 'engraving' full of typesetting solecisms, but that should be dealt with in due course.)

It doesn't print, and a PDF of the file as an exported graphic is also fine.

The whole 440 page plus score (in 18 Finale files) is due to be copied, pasted and edited in F 25 or later, with improved engraving etc etc etc, but not necessarily by me.

There were 2 phantom graphics in your file and I managed to delete both of them. I'm not really sure of the exact steps, but try this:

√ In the Graphics Tool, bring up the Check Graphics window. There should be 2 graphics listed.
√ Click on the first and press the attributes button.
√ Change the positioning to zero horizontal and zero vertical.
√ Press OK and return to the score.
√ With the Graphics Tool, click on the graphic box–the box should show highlighted handles. There might be some delay; this file was really slow on my setup.
√ Press delete–the graphic should go away.
√ Repeat the above for the second graphic.

If this doesn't work, I could try to get my copy of the file back to you–let me know.

Yes, that was exactly the problem and the fix, also works in Windows.

Thank you both: it worked, except that I had to make the vertical and horizontal positions 0.1, which shifted the graphics to the top left of the page complete with handles and the ability to delete.

I wonder what might have caused the graphics to appear in the first place? Anyway, they are now gone, which is what matters.

By the way, to find and get rid of something spurious like that, there is an even simpler way - in Page View zoom out to something like 10% or 15%, so that the pages appear very small and then you can see these misplaced items way outside of the pages. There you can then just click on them and delete them.
Also a good method the other way around, if you, for instance, want to hide something that way, you can just move it outside the normal page view (and it won't print)
