I've tried to add bass figurations to the continuo part in the attached example, but no matter how I configure the lyric tool's font with Finale Numerics for 12 point, 24 point, 48 point, whatever point, the numbers underneath the continuo part remain unreadably tiny. How do I get them to be large enough to read?

I've just switched from Finale 25 to Finale 26.

If you've already created the lyrics, you need to go into the lyrics window, highlight the text there, then change the size. Because you have three levels, that means three verses, so you need to repeat this for all 3 verses.

If you change the font in Document Options, this will affect any lyrics you enter after making the change.

No matter how I change the font, it remains the same size: tiny. I've tried changing it in Lyric options - which brings up the Document Options dialog and I've brought the Document Options directly. It makes no difference. What do I do beyond this to change the font size?

Did you follow all the instructions in Zuill’s post above?

Are you trying to change the font for already entered lyrics?

Or are you trying to change the Lyrics font before you begin entering anything?

I followed everything in Zuill's post. I need to change the font size.

Here, try this: take my example and change the lyric's Document Options Font Verse font to Finale Numerics 24 point. Then select the Lyric Tool and click on the last note in the Cello part. A cursor appears below that note. Now, press Shift 6. I see a tiny "6" below the D. It's nothing like 24 point. If you get something else, please tell me what you did to get it.

I'm trying to make newly entered figured bass large enough to read. I am not trying to make already entered figures anything. If I want them different from what they already are, I'll delete them and re-enter them - once I figure out how to make them bigger.

Select the Lyrics Tool. Go up to the Lyrics Menu on the Menu Bar. Select "Lyric Window". In the small window that appears, highlight all of the text. Go to the Text Menu on the Menu Bar. Change the size of the lyrics text there.

Does that work?

Let's start with this file (revision of the posted example file).

I increased the size from the lyric window to 24 point. This worked with the existing numbers. However, even after changing the font in the Document Options, newly entered characters reverted to the smaller size.

In a new document, with the size specified at setup, the numbers went in correctly.

(To the OP: Why use three verses? You enter the center row numbers as is, the upper row with Shift-number, and the lower row with Option-number)

N., yes, that worked. Interesting.

Miker, I was trying to do anything I could think of to make it work. I shall, of course, enter using the Shift-#, then just # in the future.

Zuill, that looks great, but I don't know what you did.

Anyway, it looks like I need to create a brand new, empty document. Set it up for the size of figured bass I want, then copy the existing score into and add the figured bass. i haven't tried it yet, but I'm about to.

Thanks to all.

I followed the steps from my earlier post. I went into the Lyrics Window. Starting with Verse 1, I highlighted the existing text (ctrl-A), then changed the font size to 24. I repeated this for Verse 2 and Verses 3.

For future entries, I changed Document Options/Fonts/Lyrics/Verses to 24.

You don't have to do that. If your font size changed using my suggestion, you're halfway there. Next, go to Document Options > Fonts and change all of the lyric fonts to your chosen font, style and size. Then, any new figured bass entries will have your chosen font.

Zuill and N., I did just as you suggested. However, even after changing the Doc Options font size, the font window still showed the smaller size, and new entries went in at that (small) size.

Since I'm using Finale 25 on Windows, I can't say what's up. Maybe there's a difference with Finale 26 and Mac.

You're right, the Lyric Window stays at 12 point after changing the size in Font Options. But Harvey wants a larger size. I changed the Lyric Window lyrics to 24 points - the lyrics in the window change and all new lyrics are in 24 point. Looks to me like you have to use the Lyric Window to change the size. On Finale 25 anyway.

I just checked things and I also see the reason Mike gets the smaller size is that when lyrics have already been entered, changing document options doesn't work as the Lyric window still has the original size. If you were in a verse that has not been used yet, then the Document Options size would appear right away. Change that and then new entries will work as expected.

Thank you, everyone. It looks like the directions in the manual aren't completely adequate. It's obviously best to begin any document that's going to need figured bass configured for it before you start entering any notes at all. If you're part way through, some work-arounds are necessary.

So, thanks, again, for all your help. I'm cookin' now.
