Hello,

I am attempting to implement a section using swing eighths in a piece I'm writing. The majority of the piece is straight, and only this 32 bar segment is to swing. However, I cannot find out how to have the playback work correctly, and it simply plays everything with straight eighth notes. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using Finale 2012 for Windows.

Thanks.

If you are using the Expression designed for this, you need to modify the Score List to have all the parts selected in the Parts column. Then it should work.

Thanks for the reply. How would I do this? Is the Score List the same as the Score Manager?

Go to the Expression panel that has the swing expression, and click on Edit Categories. You can edit the list in the next dialogue box.

Thank you, I found it. Do I need to have the HP set to Jazz for this to work? Since checking all instruments, it still only plays either all swing in Jazz HP or all straight in standard HP, regardless of my expressions...

Bump. Any advice? This still doesn't work no matter what I do...

if we can see a sample file, I'm sure we can troubleshoot, or at least know more about your file setup and what might be a solution.

Gosh it would be nice to see a step-by-step answer to some of these questions instead of a vague approximation of the final step occasionally.

It would also be nice to know how to switch Swing off after switching it on, for the straight sections.

Here is a document showing what I did.

Duplicate Swing expression. Edit that expression to read <Straight eighths eighth/eighth = eighth/eighth.> You can do it with copy and paste, and entering the text. Click the Playback tab, and change the number in the Swing box to 0 (zero.)
