Finale 25.5.0.259 OSX 10.14.5
Greetings,
The slur tool octave lines are behaving erratically — they jump somewhere else after placement.
I am also having problems with weird clef signs which appear when unnecessary.
Any solutions or suggestions very welcome.

Hi Miker,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
The clef sign problem has been solved by editing the clef definition.
However, the main problem concerning the erratic 8ve lines only seems to occur in one piece. The others are fine.
I have tried restarts and resetting preferences with no positive result.

It's a bug. What I do is draw the shape on a non-independent staff, then copy it. The other thing you can do is draw it, type Ctrl-D to reveal reality, nudge it, Carl-D again, etc., until it's right.
The big has been there forever, so they're not likely to fix it.

Thank you, Motet...
I do not have an independent staff, so I expect I'll have to find another way to draw the line.
Since resetting my preferences, weird things are happening ... when I cross-staff, or when I use Command D, the appearance changes and the number of bars per staff changes.
Control D seems to move the piece 3 pages further.

Look in the manual to see what the redraw/refresh command is on the Mac (Command-D?).
There's no reason to have every staff have an independent time signature. Pick one and make that the official, non-independent time signature, or add a new staff just long enough to draw the hairpins.

If you have Automatic Update Layout turned off, turn it on (and leave it on).when I cross-staff, or when I use Command D, the appearance changes and the number of bars per staff changes.

Update layout is turned on.
This is obviously a "corrupted" piece.. in that I used a previous work as a template.
When I try to remove any independent time sigs. the music goes berserk, as it also does if I add a temporary new staff.
Oh... bother !

Eureka... just exported as XML and the new version has been "uncorrupted".
Quite a lot of "repairs" to be done, however, especially with special tools and cross staffing.
I have also eliminated the the independence of staffs.
Phew !
