Finale Version 26
Mac

I have upgraded to Finale v. 26. Versions 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2014.5 are still on my computer.
Is it safe to uninstall the past versions of Finale?
If it is safe and/or recommended to remove these past versions, what is the best way to uninstall them from my Mac?
Thank you.

It's safe to uninstall, but I would keep at least the last few. Depending on your operating system some versions will not work, but I find that every once in a while something is wonky in 26 (notably lyrics that get changed to Chinese) so I have to open 2014.5 and copy the English lyrics from there.

In the old days, you could just drag an app to the trash. Now, I would suggest you look into an app cleaner/remover, which claims to do a better job.

The Chinese lyrics issue happens to users with old versions. The installer doesn’t always install fonts correctly in the presence of old versions. This is easily fixed, btw.

This is the last reason to keep old versions installed.

Mike, can you elaborate about the Chinese lyrics? I've just had this happen to me on a folder full of files from 2009 and I'm not looking forward to re-entering all the lyrics. I don't have any older versions installed, so I can't open them there.

I got a solution for Chinese characters showing in older Finale files.

This is an Apple limitation on not be able to use Adobe Type 3 fonts in 64-bit mode. To be fair, Adobe Type 3 was a 1980s format. When Finale changed the way they did fonts, some older fonts broke.

I removed the TimesLyrics font from my system (this is an old font), rebooted the computer, and then opened the original file (NOT the version 26 file I had saved!) Finale substituted Arial (while still calling it TimesLyrics, I might add!) but I changed it all to a different, better-behaved font and my lyrics are saved!

An alternate solution would be to use a font utility such as Tinker Tool to change the problem font into an otf version.
