Hey all,

My Macbook Pro plays all the sounds through my USB-connected headphones, except for when I'm using Finale 2014. I've tried changing the computer audio settings, with no luck. Even when I mute the computer sound, it doesn't always mute Finale.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

You might try upgrading to 2014.5.

In Finale go to the menu MIDI/AUDIO>Device Setup>Audio Setup>Output>Source>??? (Change to USB or something similar instead of the default Built-in Output) which will probably solve this. You may have to do this each time you launch Finale.

I have to do something similar for my Bluetooth headphones, which are then identified by their Sony model designation as the output source.

Here it is 2019 and I'm having the same problem with the latest version of Finale. Headphones are plugged into the computer, they work fine with EVERY other sound-producing app EXCEPT Finale. Finale insists on playing sounds through the computer speakers.

FINALE PEOPLE, haven't you solved this yet? Has anyone? Please?

I've tried through both VST (computer speakers) and through MIDI (no sound at all), and gone to the Device Setup > Audio Setup and there's only one playback device listed (the one installed on my computer).

How can I get Finale to render playback through my headset/external speakers??

This is a user forum. The Finale people don’t come here. I suggest you go to https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics, log into your account, and submit a request to them.

Try this......

Midi Audio / Device Setup / Audio set up

Then select your headphones

This was driving me nuts too!

Also set from 44.1 to 96, and buffer 4096.
Finale is 16/96, should sound a little better!

I was having the same trouble, but I discovered a solution. My Audio Setup dialog looked like this:

I changed the topmost dropdown (Audio Driver) to DirectSound, and all of my speakers then showed up in the Output Source field.

However, the change was not permanent. When I closed Finale and reopened it, the ASIO driver was once again listed first. I found this solution, which worked for me:

1. Access the Windows Device Manager (Win+X, Device Manager)
2. Under Sound, video, and game controllers: Right-click Realtek(R) Audio, select Disable Device. This device is no longer the default device in your system.
3. Right-click Realtek(R) Audio again, and select Enable Device. The driver is now functional again, but it is NOT reassigned as the default.

This worked in my Windows 10 system. After completing those 3 steps, my Audio Setup in Finale now shows that Direct Sound is my primary audio driver, and playback works as I would expect.

Thank you! The disabling/re-enabling Realtek Audio in Windows 10 worked for me.
