Yup, I need to but I can't. This is an older halftime show we are redoing. It was done in some older version, 2009 I think?
I can get it to print one. Got any solutions. I am on 26.1 and WIn 10.

No the same one so we don't have to print so many copies. I can get one march size if I use PrimoPDF but it ignores the 2nd one. Finale 26 prints a very tiny one up on my HP Office Jet Pro. Since I had to delete (size restrictions) so much of the Finale file I don't know it is will act the same here. If I can't get two-up we will get by with one using PrimoPDF.

Quickstep size is half a choral octavo page.
I've never been successful at printing quickstep two-up.
I happened to be standing at the very serious high-end university copier trying to print quickstep PDFs two-up when the head regional company copier expert walked for routine maintenance and watched me struggle. He spent a full half hour trying to get two-up on any sized paper portrait or landscape. Eventually he gave up.
Your best bet is to print the entire piece one-up, then cut and scotch-tape your parts into letter-sized duplication masters, then cut the finished copies to fit the flip folders.
I am a dinosaur.
The alternative would be vellum and ink, and running the masters through an Ozalid printer with the light sensitive paper and ammonia gas. But you'd still have to trim to size. If you are going old-school you may as well go real old school. : )

Don't know if I understood the problem right, but...
If I would want to print a part twice on a single piece of paper, I would tell Finale to print 2 copies of the part in the print dialog. Then, in the printer driver/settings dialog, I would tell the printer to print two pages on a single sheet by shrinking them.
Does that solve the problem?

You can tell Finale to print whatever and it still does it own thing. If I tell it to print two-up octavo it prints a tiny copy in the upper left corner. Not even two of them! If I use PrimoPDF it will print the correct octavo but only one-up."I would tell Finale to print 2 copies of the part in the print dialog."
I have sent MM a support package, no response yet. This is a pretty common way march size music is done. It isn't a off the wall thing.

What happens if you open the print dialog, check a part and enter "2" in the "Copies" column? You say Finale does its own thing - does it really ignore the number of copies?ebiggs1 wrote:You can tell Finale to print whatever and it still does it own thing.
If yes, something is seriously broken.

It prints a little part in the upper left corner. Just one. PrimoPDF prints the correct size but only one.

I suspect Finale doesn't know how to print 2-up vertically.
I'm pretty sure CutePDF will do this. You would need to add your paper size of 6.75 x 10.5 in the Windows settings, then print normally (1-up, landscape) to CutePDF. Then you can use Impose or Booklet to convert it to 2-up. But you would wind up with 10.5 x 13.5--do you really have paper that size and a printer to print it? If not, CutePDF could then resize that to 11 x 17, I guess, which is more standard.

I have been trying to print anything marching size. I have encountered this same issue and have asked MM about it, still waiting for reply. When I have been able to get something to print it is still too large for the marching folders. How do I scale it down to the correct size (besides scissors, tape and reduce it by copier)?
A thought on adding copies in the print dialogue box. This method wont work because it treats each copy as a separate file. If the print cue treated copies of parts as the same print job it would print in the same file/page. At least that is what it appears to be doing. My evidence for this is that when printing to .pdf if it were a single print job/file it would create a single file and not multiple.

You are not going to get Finale to print two-up different instrument so forget that. MM confirms that. ALso you are probably not going to get it to print two-up same instrument. But that might be possible with the pdf maker software. Finale's printing section needs a lot of work. Probably needs to be completely redone from the beginning. It is confusing and most of it doesn't even work even if you figure it out.
Here is the setting I use to get it to print march size that fits in the flip folder. No printer I know of will print octavo so cutting is required but using these settings you can cut a bunch at a time on a big paper cutter. It will place them all in the same place on the sheet of paper. Our school has a massive paper cutter that does a real nice job. Go to Page format for parts and do these settings.
I like to print to pdf and keep that original for later use if needed. I think PrimoPDF works best for this but I have use Cute PDF and DoPDF. The school Music dept. has a Google drive page to store the files.
It prints this.

I have been learning a lot about printers, lately, more than I ever wanted to. You can print to non-standard paper sizes with many types of HP home and small office printers. As long as the size paper is within the minimum and maximum printing dimensions supported by the printer. I have an HP Office Jet Pro 7740 and a Brother Business Smart Pro both fantastic printers."I think an office-grade printer will generally print custom sizes (my HP 5000 will)."
I should have said it is the fault of Windows and not actually the printer. To print on a custom paper size in Windows, create the new size in the printer properties menu and then select the new size for your print job. Somewhat confusing! Besides octavo size paper is going to be a problem so you are going to special order or you are going to cut. My way works and is easy.

How do you set a custom size on the Brother? I've got a Business Smart Pro and the paper size settings are limited to 10 or so common sizes.
I agree that printing on common size paper and trimming is probably the most economical and easiest way to go; I was just responding to "No printer I know of will print octavo."

I print all my march size to a pdf then to the printer. It is far easier. I printed all the "Phoenix" show parts on the Brother. They printed exactly like the sample I displayed earlier. The correct size is done In Finale format parts (displayed earlier) so I guess the Brother would print it exactly that way directly.
I will try it later to make sure. Do you do much march size writing? It is a big part of what I do since half-time shows are so expensive. This one is a kid favorite.

If you say so, I don't have any octavo size paper so I have never tried printing on it to either printer. The pdf route works for us.

I didn't try this on the printer yet but the Brother printer and Win 10 let me create a march size page size and put it in the Brother default list.
I suspect if I had octavo paper it would work correctly. I see no reason why it would not.

Sorry, I can't test it as I don't have any octavo paper. The PDf route is what I use and it works.
