Finale 2014 v.26.1.0.484; Mac

I have an E flat with a tie over a time signature change in the Alto and Bass line. It does not play back as a tie note. The program will play back with a natural note tie in the Soprano and Tenor line over the same time signature. How do I get the tie in the Alto and Bass to playback?

Please note that I do not read music and am woefully lacking in terminology.

Thanks for any help.

The first question has to be (by your own admission) are you clear on the difference between a tie and a slur, and how to use the different tools in Finale?

After you have a few more posts, you will be able to post the document, so we can have a look.

I'm going to guess that since the natural tones tie, but not the Eb's, that the note on the other side of the barline is actually an E natural. Change it to an Eb and then it should tie. If you change it to an Eb, the flat sign will not show, but the tie will work.

P.S.: This file shows what I mean.

In Simple entry, you have to apply the accidental manually to the note across the barline, if you tie them. It doesn't happen automatically.

Enter note before the barline.
Apply accidental. (I use the - and + on the numberpad.)
Tap the T key for a tie.
Enter the enter the note after the barline.
Apply the accidental, as before. You won't see a change, but you will hear it.

This way also works:

Enter the note before the barline.
Apply accidental.
Enter the note after the barline.
Apply accidental, as before.
Type Shift-T for a tie back to the note before the barline. The after-the-barline accidental will disappear because of the tie.

Utilities/Check Notation/Check Ties should catch all these.

Check Ties doesn't change an E natural to an Eb, despite the tie.

Thanks for the correction. Too bad--not much of a check, then.

And I never trusted it, myself. I can make those mistakes on my own, thank you very much.
