Finale tells me there is an ARIA engine update (1.958) available and asks me whether I would like to download it. Yes, please. Funny though, when I arrive at the download page, it reads: "Downloads removed as ARIA is now 64bit only. Ask your ARIA product vendors for details". Nothing on the subject to be found on the MakeMusic pages.
Why can't I download the update? I was allowed to install the latest player update, which is set to work in 64-bits mode, so what's the problem?

Jay, have you created a ticket with MM with these questions? I have the same problem.

This is the reply I received from David Cusick:

Hi William,

Thanks for contacting MakeMusic. The site you are referencing is managed by Plogue so I cannot speak to that actions that they take on this site.

If you are using Finale or Garritan products, the ARIA Player and Engine that is installed with these products (1.872) is what is designed to work with these and provide full functionality of the Garritan products. Are you encountering any technical issues related to the ARIA Engine version you currently have installed? If so, can you tell me what these are? I am happy to help with that.

Maddy M. responded:
Hello!

Thanks for contacting MakeMusic Customer Support. I'm happy to help explain this message.

You've received this message because you've most likely recently updated your Aria player.

Altogether, you can ignore this message as the update is not necessary for the Garritan instruments. As a workaround, you can select, MIDI/Audio > Reassign Playback Sounds and just reassign the playback instruments.

Thanks!
In other words: yes, there is an update, but you don't need it and you're not going to get it anyhow. At least that's how I read it.
Still wondering though why there is an unnecessary update … ?!?

Here we go...

Bill,

Thanks for the clarification. If you would like to download the latest ARIA Engine you can with the link below. Keep in mind that the Engine is not backwards compatible so if you save a Finale file with instruments using this engine, the computer that the file is being opened on will also need this version or you will see an error message about this.

Yes. I was given this link by MM support (only after persisting with asking for it).

https://makemusic-downloads.s3.amazonaw ... C6rVJXw%3D

This link will expire at some point. I presume you still need a license for it to work, so I believe I'm not doing anything naughty.

I would ask MM directly for it. Perhaps if enough people ask, they will actually make the software more generaly available.
The support guy said "There have been some changes made to the Engine and the Player but this had been as needed for particular purposes. Finale and these particular Garritan products do not require this."

The release notes list Catalina compatibility and VST3 support, which are fairly major.

Thanks, BuonTempi. Did you install the updated engine? Does everything still work OK?

I downloaded the package, but until I upgrade to Catalina and Finale 26, I'm very leery about installing it.

Yes, it all works fine on Catalina and Mojave. The installer updates the engine and the player, so there should be no problems.

I was given no reason for why MM is not releasing the update.

The 1.9.5.9 ARIA Player & Engine updater (included with Finale 26.2) can now be found in the MakeMusic download library:

https://store.makemusic.com/Downloads/Default.aspx

After installing, if you Check for Updates to the Player, it still says "You have an unreleased version".

There is now also a 1.9.6.0 update for the Engine alone, which can be found here:
