Though I'm a dinosaur Finale 1.0 user and should know better, it didn't occur to me my MIDI interface was 32-bit and would no longer be supported in Catalina.

I waited dutifully for 26.2 before upgrading, and no longer have MIDI keyboard entry as my interface is obsolete. This is a new interface I purchased in 2018, when my last three interfaces were no longer supported.

Best I can tell, Roland nor M-Audio has Catalina drivers for my prior two interfaces. It is unlikely they will ever be supported again. Catalina drivers for any of their products appear scarce.

So, I'm faced with the daunting task of reverting to Mojave for midi keyboard input, waiting for a driver that may never arrive, or getting much more proficient at computer keyboard entry.

If you are a Mac MIDI keyboard input user, proceed with caution, and update your driver in Catalina BEFORE you move to 26.2 and Catalina.

What’s your keyboard? Many MIDI keyboards with USB connectors don’t actually need any drivers to work.

And indeed, some Audio-Midi interfaces don’t need any drivers to work, either. I got burnt by M-Audio not producing new drivers for Snow Leopard (6 months after release), and so I bought a Roland FA-66 interface, which was 'CoreAudio/CoreMIDI compliant', and just plugged in (to my Firewire port, however.... )

It could be worse. I still have a MIDI controller in the closet that used SCSI.

Never did get it to work...

Good news! It turns out Roland just released the Catalina driver that supports my particular MIDI interface. I am up and running again with MIDI piano note entry. My thanks to everyone who helped.
