Repeat entries
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Hi everyone, I am a long-time Finale user and lurker of this very useful forum. Thanks in advance for any help people might be able to provide.
My question is this:
Using a computer keyboard (I don't use a midi keyboard) is there a command in Finale that allows you to repeat an entry you have made to a score. For example, if you have just entered a quarter note A in the treble clef, is there a keyboard command to repeat that note again, and again if necessary.
Even better, if you have created a chord, is there a keyboard command to repeat that chord again, instead of re-entering it, or copy/pasting it.
Thanks again for any help!

Not as far as I know. However, your entry method may be able to be improved, to where it isn’t such a pain. Can you tell us how you are entering the notes, now?

Enter the repeated chords as one (very long) chord (perhaps a whole note chord).
Then, from the Selection Tool, select the region with the long chord, and go to
Plug-ins menu > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Rhythmic Subdivisions…

Hi, I am currently using simple entry, and use a variety of methods depending on the situation, and how I am feeling! I find keyboard entry is fastest, but not always intuitive.
Thank you very much! I had never tried that and it could be very useful. Will definitely try it out.Peter Thomsen wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 5:35 pmEnter the repeated chords as one (very long) chord (perhaps a whole note chord).

I like that idea with repeat entries. What I tend to use is just copying a measure (or measures or stack or stacks), inserting or pasting into an empty slot; then edit. It's useful for montunos in a Latin style.

I find that stacking chords with the number row for the intervals is pretty quick. But, I don't need to do it nearly as often as most of you, I suspect.

I have very small (OK, almost no) keyboard chops. It really takes less time for me to tap C334 than it would to do it on a keyboard.

Whatever works for you, of course. I find the "interval from the last note entered" not very intuitive--I'd rather enter the pitches themselves, especially in a complex chord. But there must be a reason for it, and I'm sure I'd get used to it.
