When I first turn on Finale 26, the splash screen (before you get to the panel that lets you access the wizard, your files, templates, etc...) is staying up far longer than it did when I first installed Finale 26.
I sometimes sit here for 30-45 seconds waiting for the program to be ready for me to select a file.
Is there something I'm missing? some way of clearing out some junk that's doing this?

unlike, apparently, a lot of people, I turn off my computer every night before bed, and don't turn it on again until the next day when I sit down to work.
so no, restart doesn't do it.

I solved this by telling Windows Defender not to scan Finale.
Virus & threat protections settings / Exclusions / Add or remove exclusions
Add the entire Finale folder (somewhere under Program Files).
There seems little if any risk in doing this.

thank-you Motet, I'll try that.
EDIT***
Well, that didn't make a difference.
I made the changes, then rebooted my computer, and it still too 35 seconds to get away from the Finale splash screen until the Wizard interface showed up.
To be clear, the problem isn't when I first start up my computer. I can turn on my computer at 8 AM but then not use Finale until noon, and it will do the same thing.
Is there some INI file or something, that gets clogged up with time as it adds new information?

Windows defender scans when you first run the program after not using it a while. It has nothing to do with boot time. If you quit and then relaunch soon, there's less delay. Do you experience that?
Too bad that didn't fix it. Double-check that you got the folders right, I guess (you want the folder that contains finale.exe and all its DLLs).

Temp folder? Finale notoriously doesn't always clean up after itself.Michel R E wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 2:37 amIs there some INI file or something, that gets clogged up with time as it adds new information?

AHA! I found the issue. Your suggestion was the correct answer, but I had set up Windows Defender improperly.
Finale once more starts up lightning fast!
Thank-you.
