Looking over DiP, there is one (IMO) deal breaker for me: note input. In Finale, I use my QWERTY keyboard for note input, so I don’t have to worry about the key signature. If there is a Bb in the ks, all I need to enter is the B. DiP gives you a piano keyboard. Yes, I can certainly plunk out the notes, but I gave up on piano lessons 60 years ago when we got to anything beyond one or two sharps or flats. Also, it looks like you need to play in a chord, rather than allowing additive notes. Maybe you can do it that way, I didn’t dig that deep.
So, I’ll stick with Finale and a desktop computer, although I’m sure it’s a nice addition for road warriors who don’t like Notion.

Well, if you have a USB or Bluetooth keyboard, you can use that - though it makes things less portable. There’s no way of typing music currently.
But there are ways to build a chord, if you want.
Most of all, it shows what small development teams can achieve. Dorico’s dev team is no more than ten people; and while they can lean on others in Steinberg for some things, they are doing most of the heavy lifting. And spending time on their forums to respond to user questions.

A good step backwards perhaps. Beethoven had his sketchbook; today's composer has his iPad.

I suspect a small sketchbook is tougher and more portable than an iPad, plus it doesn't need to be kept charged. Maybe it's just my age (80), but I wouldn't want to rely on technology for spur of the moment sketches. Mind you, I suppose one could use an iPad in the dark…John Ruggero wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:40 pm… … Beethoven had his sketchbook; today's composer has his iPad.

My image of the Finale development "team" has always been this single poor guy rowing upstream against a very strong current trying to keep the program afloat.
I don't think he has time to work on an iPad version.

I think they are in trouble market-share wise, so are focused on adding features. Hence the current update with file sharing and Smuffle fonts and not much else. If they determine that people want a tablet version, they're going to try.

If you remember, MM already tried bringing a Reader to the iPad some time ago, and either there was insufficient interest to justify the effort, or the effort itself of maintaining a third branch of the code was too great.
Interestingly, Sibelius, MuseScore and Dorico all use the Qt framework, which handles all the cross platform differences, reducing the duplication cost for supporting Windows, Mac and iPad. Finale doesn’t, so presumably has much higher costs in developing two or more platforms.

I don't think it's age at all. I read an interview with a young American poet (I think she was 30) and they assumed she used a word processor. When she said notebook and pencil she was asked if she had a favourite brand of specialist notebooks; her reply was she just got the inexpensive ones students use and only used a word processor for the final layout.David Ward wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:06 amI suspect a small sketchbook is tougher and more portable than an iPad, plus it doesn't need to be kept charged. If Make Music people are reading, for what it is worth, I am not interested in ipad, or Smart Music sharing or smufl fonts. I just want Finale to work and it does for me as it is. But that said there are things Make Music could do to make that easier and or faster.
