Hi all,
How do I manually move this accent in Fin 26? I think Finale places it too high... I'd like to move it down closer to the note however it won't budge.

Cheers,
HP.

I think we would need to see more to help. If you select the Articulation Tool does the accent have a selection box? And then you can't move it using that box?

Is it possible that the accent is attached to something we can't see in another staff?

More questions;

What version of Finale was this file started in?
If you open the file in an older version (Finale 25 or 2014.5) does the accent display properly?
If it's possible to disable Finale's new features regarding articulations, does it display properly?
Are the font annotation files the ones that installed with the new version?
Have you shut down and restarted the computer?

As an experiment, I'd convert this file to XML and open the XML in Finale 26 to see if there's an improvement.

Hi N, thanks! I started this file in Finale 2014.4.5545 for Macintosh.

The accents display as per my original placements when opened in the earlier version. However I was wanting to see what Fin26 placements were like, so when I opened a copy of the file in Fin26 I allowed it to update the articulations using the new stacking thing. Mostly, the articulations are well placed, it's just a few that seem to get positioned too far above a slur (in my opinion).

I have worked out that I can use the contextual menu for the articulation to make the positioning "manual", however upon doing this, I see that other occurrences of the said articulation shift unsatisfactorily. So I hastily undo that. I think the solution is to duplicate the said accent and make the occurrences of that accent alone behave manually. I will try that after lunch. I will also try the XML route after lunch, though I have edited for a few hours on this file...

I suspect that the font annotation files are those installed by Fin 26 as I have not tinkered with those to my knowledge.

Shut down didn't seem to provide a workaround on this occasion.

I'll try a few more things...
Cheers,
Hector.

Indeed the culprit is Finale v26’s (new) Articulation Tool.

To fix the accent in Fin v26 you must edit the articulation’s definition.

In the Articulation Designer, click the button {Handle Positioning}, and set the Vertical Offset to zero.

Setting the Vertical Offset to zero may not give you precisely what you need.
You may have to experiment with various (small) values for the Vertical Offset.

Thanks all,

One good thing is that, if I duplicate the accent and twiddle with those settings in isolation (and turn off the auto stacking for it), then I can use it in the score where necessary and identify it later by virtue of it not having an auto-stack asterisk in the articulations palette.

Cheers,
Hector.
