I am rewriting a part for 1st and 2nd clarinets. Most of the music is written on single staff systems using voices to depict the different clarinet parts. Some sections, however, are so different that it was found to be better to use a bracketed two staff system. These occur sporadically throughout the part. I have tried to replicate this but have not been successful. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I am not sure why you have “not been successful” - since I do not know the steps, you've already taken.

This works for me:

Add an extra staff to the entire part so that the part is a 2-staff part.
You can use the Staff Tool to hide the added staff from Page View where you do not need it.
(You can still see the hidden staff in Scroll View; the staff will only be hidden from Page View.)

For the region with 2 staves showing - and only for that region - use the Staff Tool to add a new staff group.
