Problems with lyrics and music spacing

I'm using Finale 2011 on a new MacBook Pro, and am having spacing issues with both lyrics and music. Basically, everything is squished together--the lyrics and notes run into each other, and the measures aren't expanding wide enough to accommodate everything, even when I type lyrics in, etc. I never had this problem with my older version of Finale. Automatic music spacing is on and everything, so I can't figure out what the problem would be. Any advice? Thanks!
