Finale 2008 Windows.
Im trying to play a piece in swing style, it starts ok but it goes back to straight eight notes. I adjusted the play back settings, tempo settings, created a new score but still doing the same thing. Help please. Thanks

Be sure to use the Expression Tool, NOT the Playback Controls for setting Swing.
In the Expression Tool create the swing Expression, then in the Edit Tool select Swing, and assign the % you want.
To change to even, non-swing feel, create something like straight or even 8ths,
and in the Edit Tool, set Swing to 0.
Apply to ALL staves!

I think seeing a file with the problem will help us to find the cause of the problem. It might just be something hidden that is interfering.
Using playback controls for Swing is not a bad approach, so it should not be thrown out as one way. It is the easiest, and usually the best. Using an expression is only really needed when changing from swing to straight. And the workaround selecting all staves is all staves in the Parts, not the Score. If in the score, that would clutter things. This is done in the chosen Score List.

I'm having a similar problem. I have a piece that goes from a latin section to a swing section and back again. I tried the expression designer but it changes the whole piece. Can anyone help?

You need an expression at each style change.JoeCinquina wrote:… I tried the expression designer but it changes the whole piece …
And each expression should be designed with playback effect.
Begin the piece with an expression that has playback effect Straight.
At the beginning of the swing section enter an expression with playback effect Swing.
At the end of the swing section enter an expression with playback effect Straight.
